The Office of the Prime Minister- Industry and Innovation Unit has successfully concluded its advanced Train the Trainers ICT programme in Regions One and Nine. The programme targeted the communities of Haimaracabra, Waramuri, and Para Village in Region One and Kumu and Quarrie Villages in Region Nine. A total of 70 participants were trained in Region One, while 60 individuals were trained in Region Nine.

This intervention is part of a national effort to enhance Guyana’s digital infrastructure and empower citizens in remote areas with vital ICT skills.
The programme targeted individuals with prior knowledge of computing, equipping them with advanced training that enables them to return to their communities as digital mentors. Among them was Edgenaia Peters, a 19-year-old teacher from Quarrie Village, who shared: “I’m a teacher here in Quarrie Village, and I must acknowledge our new ICT hub. This training was an excellent opportunity for me and the other residents. I would love to see more of these trainings so our people can become ICT literate. I would like to sincerely thank the Prime Minister and the Government of Guyana for making this possible.” Her words reflect the growing enthusiasm within hinterland communities for technology-driven development.
Participants engaged in hands-on sessions covering essential areas such as productivity tools, online research, digital safety, and instructional techniques. The programme strengthened their technical knowledge and instilled the confidence to lead future training initiatives. John Anderson, a 44-year-old Community Support Officer (CSO) from Kumu Village, noted: “This training will further enhance my capabilities, and I would like to encourage the younger generation to take advantage of these opportunities and get trained in ICT. Guyana is moving toward a digitally driven economy, and the establishment of ICT hubs in remote communities across my region is truly bridging the digital divide. Thank you to our Government for this vital investment in our future.”
The initiative is closely aligned with Guyana’s pursuit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). The training conducted through the unit also clearly reflects the Government’s unwavering commitment to building a fully connected, inclusive digital society. By investing in people and technology across all regions, Guyana lays the foundation for a resilient, future-ready nation where every citizen can thrive in the digital economy.
