ICT

THIS IS WHERE IT STARTS IN GUYANA
Honourable Brigadier Mark Phillips
Prime Minister of the Cooperative
Republic of Guyana

The world today is rapidly transforming into a digital one and as a Government, we have the mandate to ensure that we develop an environment that is conducive to technological development and by extension innovation. The Government of Guyana through the Industry and Innovation Unit of the Office of the Prime Minister is committed to developing an ICT equipped society and providing the necessary impetus needed to ensure that Guyana adapts to the everchanging ICT landscape and capitalizes on technology to addressing national developmental issues, and ultimately create novel ICT employment and other opportunities to Guyanese.

It is now a fact as evidenced by developments from other countries that ICT as a sector can contribute immensely to the national GDP of a nation and that ICT, acting as an enabler, can result in improved market competitiveness of a nation’s products and services. ICTs can impact positively on governance and other sectors of the economy. In turn ICT can effectively assist international economic integration, improve living standards, narrow the digital divide, and improve biodiversity utilization and management.

The Government of Guyana is cognizant of the benefits to be derived from ICT, this is evident by its ambition to develop the necessary policy and strategic framework and allocating resources to the sector to ensure that development is timely.

Technology is the tool that will provide that balance needed to weather the storm we now face to prepare us for what’s to come. So, I encourage all stakeholders to support the work of the Industry and Innovation Unit as we charter a brighter future for all Guyanese.

We will do our part to continue to foster the use of ICT as a tool for national development, creativity, and innovation.
