ICT

THIS IS WHERE IT STARTS IN GUYANA

Today, Information Communications Technology (ICT) is ever-present, it has been one of the major contemporary pillars of social and economic development throughout the world.  ICT has the potential to address a wide range of health, economic, and social challenges in Guyana. Through its development and deployment it has the capacity to influence our development agenda by facilitating the achievement of many of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 3 (Good health and Well-being for People), Goal 4 (Quality of Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work, and Economic Growth), and importantly, Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

The Industry and Innovations Unit is mandated to create an enabling environment that will support an ICT driven private sector, drive economic growth, eliminate social inequalities, and level the playing field for equal access and economic upliftment for all Guyanese.

This is in keeping with the Government of Guyana’s manifesto, which states that “the ICT sector if properly incentivized can generate thousands of new jobs through co-investment, providing infrastructure support, state-sponsored training, and employment opportunities for the disabled”.
