Approximately, 30 more young adults and youths are now equipped with foundation knowledge of literacy and digital skills – Sophia

The Office of the Prime Minister’s Industry and Innovation Unit in collaboration with the Department of Public Affairs, yesterday, concluded its Community ICT Training at the Cummings Lodge/ Sophia Multi-Purpose building. Approximately, 30 more young adults and youths are now equipped with foundation knowledge of literacy and digital skills.
The training comprises three modules that teaches foundation skills about computing devices while building their confidence in using computer software applications.
Addressing the graduates, Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister Hon. Kwame McCoy noted the government is committed to working towards the advancement of every Guyanese. Minister McCoy stressed that since August 2020, the administration has continuously fashioned programmes, initiatives and investments to better the population. “This opportunity you’ve had for the past week to learn a new skill, to learn a skill that is so relevant with the direction in which the world will continue to go for many years. Part of that technological evolution in which the internet and computer skills is such an important asset for individuals and communities, the type of skills we cannot avoid and should not avoid because it has absolute relevance to the future. We must cherish this opportunity!” Minister McCoy said. He challenged the participants to practice what they learnt and advance their knowledge in the ICT sector until they master their skills.
Additionally, Acting Director of Youth, Mr Suresh Singh, Prime Minister Representative of Region 4 Bishop Patrick Findlay and Director of the Industry and Innovation Unit, Mr Shahrukh Hussain were present at the graduation ceremony.
The theme for the training is ‘Creating a brighter future through ICT’ and will conclude in December 2021.
