Bridging the Digital Divide in Region Two: Empowering Rural Communities Through ICT
Last week, the Industry and Innovation Unit successfully concluded a transformative ICT training programme in Region Two, Pomeroon. The programme in brought together over 200 participants from several remote and riverine communities for both Basic and Intermediate ICT Training, reinforcing our commitment to digital inclusion and national development.
The Basic ICT Training focused on computer literacy, digital skills, and internet usage essentials, and catered to eager learners from:
• Wakapoa
• St. Lucia Mission
• Akawini
• Baracaro Island
• Kabakaburi
• St. Monica
• Karawab

The Intermediate Training focused on more advanced digital competencies, including productivity tools and online collaboration platforms. This session engaged participants from:
• St. Monica
• Capoey
• Mashabo
• Kabakaburi
• Mainstay

These sessions were not just about acquiring technical skills, they were about empowering communities, expanding access to opportunities, and laying the groundwork for sustainable development. Many of the participants were first-time computer users, young people preparing for the workforce, and community leaders eager to bring knowledge back to their villages.
By taking ICT training directly into these rural and hinterland regions, we are breaking barriers—geographical, economic, and educational—ensuring no one is left behind in Guyana’s digital transformation.

We commend all participants for their dedication and enthusiasm and thank our facilitators and community partners for their invaluable support. The momentum continues as we expand this initiative across other regions, lighting the way toward a more connected and innovative Guyana.
