According to the Director of Industry and Innovation within the Office of the Prime Minister Shahrukh Hussain, the system will be handed over to the National Trust of Guyana.
“We in the office of the prime minister will continue to look at areas and look at key areas where we know persons donโt have access to ICT. We also want to look and poor areas to bring ICT access to them and because we in a pandemic and because of this more and more especially children need internet access.” He added.
He noted that the focus is to ensure that Guyanese have access to internet connections regardless of where they reside and whether or not there are telecommunication services in their communities.
Community Development Officer at the National Data Management Authority, Travis Spellin says the based on groundworks it was recognized that a hotspot was imperative for the area given the population size as well as the number of persons that would frequent the monument site daily.
“It can benefit the people of palmyra and also persons who visit here, now today what we are doing is delivering that promise we have connected the internet access point am its an open system where anyone can visit this facility and have access to it. In terms of the download, it’s 7MB per second.”
