June 21st, forty-seven teenagers and young adults from the Ann’s Grove Community on the East Coast Demerara graduated from the Unit’s Basic ICT Literacy Training Programme.

In the present era, we are living in a constantly developing digital world. Nowadays, ICT has revolutionised the social and economic aspects of our life. Hence, the Office of the Prime Minister-Industry and Innovation Unit’s ICT Literacy Training Programme continues to revolutionise the populace through Information and Communications Technology.
 
On Tuesday, June 21st, forty-seven teenagers and young adults from the Ann’s Grove Community on the East Coast Demerara graduated from the Unit’s Basic ICT Literacy Training Programme. For approximately one week, the beneficiaries gained practical and theoretical knowledge in Information Technology. Microsoft Office Suite and Internet Literacy.
Delivering remarks, the Director of the Industry and Innovation Unit, Mr. Shahrukh Hussain, alluded to the importance of ICT in everyday life and highlighted the importance of becoming ICT literate. He said his unit is committed to ensuring Guyanese are fully digital literate to drive socio-economic development within the nation.
Meanwhile, Ann’s Grove Community Representative, Ms. Dellon Adams, commended the participants for completing the training. She reminded the graduates that ICT would become a functional requirement for work, social activities and personal lives.
Also present at the ceremony was the Director of Youth, Mr. Suresh Singh.
The ICT Literacy Programme forms part of the unit’s mandate in bridging the digital divide.
