Office Of the Prime Minister attends the Fourth Meeting of the ECLAC Conference on Science, Innovation and Information and Communication Technologies.

On April 4th and 5th, 2024, Guyana participated in the annual Fourth Meeting of the Conference on Science, Innovation, and Information and Communication Technologies (CCITIC) of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Columbia. Present at the meeting was the Director of the Industry and Innovation Unit within the Office of Prime Minister, Mr. Shahrukh Hussain. The inter-governmental meeting, was held under the theme central theme โ€œscience, technology, and innovation for productive development.”

 

 

 

 

The Unit’s Director highlighted the importance of looking for strategic allies in developed countries to strengthen relations with educational institutions between countries. The Conference is a permanent venue for political and technical discussion because it is an ECLAC auxiliary entity. It also focuses on the importance to improve the caliber and effectiveness of public policies in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. In this light, it brings together high-ranking officials in charge of drafting laws of these topics.

The event was inaugurated at the Nariรฑo Palace by the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro; the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Colombia, Yesenia Olaya; the Secretary of ECLAC, Luis F. Yรกรฑez, representing the Executive Secretary, Josรฉ Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs; and the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Colombia, Mireia Villar.
