THIRTY-THREE residents of Anna Regina and Cotton Field have successfully completed a one-week Basic ICT training programme facilitated by the Industry and Innovation Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister.
The programme, which ran from April 13 to 17, was conducted at the Cotton Field Community Centre, and targeted participants between the ages of 13 and 45. The diverse age range reflected the broad interest in developing computer and digital skills among residents of Region Two.
The graduates were officially recognised during a ceremony held on Friday at the Anna Regina Secondary School Auditorium. Family members, community leaders, and government representatives gathered to celebrate the achievement of the participants, many of whom were experiencing formal ICT training for the first time.
Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO) Omesh Sasenarayan attended the graduation ceremony, and praised the participants for their commitment and determination throughout the week-long programme.

He said the large turnout, and the varying ages of the graduates demonstrated that the desire to learn and improve is present across all sections of the community.
Sasenarayan noted that training opportunities of this nature are especially important as Guyana continues to embrace technology and digital development.
“Today’s graduates represent the future of our region and our country. Whether you are 13 years old or 45, the skills you have gained this week will place you in a better position to access opportunities in education, employment, and business,” he said.
He further explained that basic ICT knowledge has become essential in almost every aspect of modern life, from completing school assignments and applying for jobs, to communicating Online and managing businesses.

The participants received instruction in a number of key areas during the week, including the fundamentals of computer use, typing, operating digital devices, using the internet, creating documents and understanding basic software applications. The training was designed to equip them with practical skills that can be used in everyday life and in the workplace.
Delivering the feature address at the ceremony, Prime Minister’s Representative Arnold Adams emphasised the need for Guyanese citizens to become more technologically prepared as the country develops rapidly.
He urged the graduates to continue building on the foundation they have gained, and encouraged them to take advantage of additional educational opportunities, including scholarships offered through the Government’s GOAL programme.
Adams said that the country is moving towards greater digitalisation, and persons who possess ICT skills will be better positioned to benefit from new opportunities.
“Guyana is changing quickly, and technology is becoming a part of everything we do. You must continue learning and ensure that you are prepared to compete and succeed in this new environment,” Adams told the graduates.
He pointed out that the Government remains committed to making ICT training accessible to people in every region, particularly young people and community members who may not otherwise have access to such opportunities.
The graduation ceremony also highlighted the Government’s wider vision for technological advancement, as outlined in the PPP/C 2025 Manifesto, which states that ICT will be a key driver of national development, innovation and economic growth.
The Manifesto envisions a Guyana where more citizens are digitally literate, more communities have access to training and technology, and more opportunities are created through the use of ICT.
Friday’s graduation represented another step in preparing residents of Region Two for the future and ensuring that they are equipped to participate in Guyana’s growing digital economy.
The 33 graduates left the ceremony with certificates in hand, and a renewed sense of confidence, ready to apply the skills they’ve learnt and continue their journey towards greater educational and professional success.
