Empowering Guyanese Girls Through Code

In observance of Girls in ICT Day, celebrated annually in April, the Guyanese Girls Code programme was kick-started on 28 March 2025 at J.C Chandisingh Secondary School in Port Mourant. The programme acts as a catalyst, providing meaningful opportunities for girls to engage with technology in practical, empowering ways. This year, hosted by the Industry and Innovation Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister, the programme is being delivered on-site at secondary schools across Guyana. Using accessible no-code tools such as Machine Learning for Kids and Scratch, the hands-on programme introduces girls to coding concepts, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, even without prior programming experience. For 2026, the programme is designed for girls aged 13 to 15.
The initiative supports early exposure to STEM education while building confidence, creativity, and innovation. Additionally, the training aligns with national priorities for digital education and inclusion, reinforcing Guyana’s commitment to gender equity in technology.
Below are highlights of the training held at J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School.
